The First *Game of Thrones* Season 7 Photos Are Here

By  |

We may be hurtling hard and fast into summer up here in the northern hemisphere, but we Game of Thrones fiends whose hearts belong in the nation of Westeros know that the real season to start getting psyched for is winter. And cue that excitement right about now: The benevolent gods at HBO have released the first photos from GoT‘s much-anticipated seventh season, and they’re sure to have you shivering with excitement.

The network put out 15 photos from the upcoming season, many of which feature the queens (both literal and figurative) who you’ve been missing in your life since the series when into hibernation last year to work on its next installment. There’s crowd favorite Daenerys Targaryen, looking like she’s maybe spending quality time in her yet-to-be-seen ancestral homeland of Dragonstone, based on the lighting. Then there’s Cersei Lannister, who seems right at home on the Iron Throne with brother/baby daddy Jaime by her side. The Stark sisters are back as well, though not together—yet: Sansa is looking pensive at Winterfell while clearly getting an earful from Littlefinger (that can’t be good), and Arya, well, it’s not totally apparent what she’s up to, but we’re sure it involves kicking some butt. Plus, shippers of the OG badass Brienne of Tarth and the lovable Tormund, there’s hope yet that this OTP might become reality. And even the real MVP, little Lady Lyanna Mormont, is back for more Northerner action.

And of course, let’s not forget the (still alive!—for now) Jon Snow, Tyrion Lannister, Bran Stark, and so many others who are back for more battles and bloodshed in their quests for power. Check out the pics below:

This photo drop is only the latest of several recent releases that are turning our “We know nothings” to somethings when it comes to the seven-episode-long season 7. In early March, HBO got our temperatures rising (and falling) with a very thematically appropriate fire-and-ice teaser, and at the end of the month, the first trailer hit the Web, giving us chills in all senses of the word.

Game of Thrones makes its triumphant return to HBO on July 16. Until then, we’re in for one long, dark, terror-filled night of waiting.
